A recentyl published survey in the latest issue of Journal of Neural Engineering shows that the acceptance of implantable Brain Machine Interfaces (BMIs) by paralyzed patients is surprisingly high.
In the course of the survey 131 patients were interviewed who are affected by paralyses through ALS, stroke or spinal cord injury. The majority of the patients knew about the possibility to control assistive technology devices via BMIs and had a positive attitude toward invasive BMI approaches.
The study was conducted in a collaboration of University Medical Center Freiburg and CorTec.
