A fully implantable brain-computer interface
CorTec's Brain Interchange is an investigational, chronically implantable brain-computer interface that rests on the surface of the brain without penetrating the tissue, and reads from and writes to the brain in near real time. It now holds two FDA Breakthrough Device Designations, one for stroke motor rehabilitation and one for communication, making CorTec one of only a handful of BCI companies worldwide with more than one such designation, and, to its knowledge, the only one designated for stroke motor rehabilitation.
One platform, many indications
Built as a platform, Brain Interchange starts with stroke rehabilitation as its lead indication and extends toward further areas, communication, epilepsy and depression among them. The same system, applied to different clinical questions, is what opens the door to entirely new therapeutic approaches.
One implant, every depth
Brain Interchange connects to the full range of neural interfaces, from cortical surface grids to depth electrodes, within one implanted system. Where single-purpose BCIs are built for one target, our platform reaches the targets each indication requires.

An industrial backbone for neurotechnology
CorTec’s technological backbone is made of the vertically integrated building blocks for Brain Interchange. Developed by highly skilled engineers and manufactured in a certified cleanroom in Freiburg, Germany, this base has been diversified over the years to serve as an end to end AIMD platform for neurotech companies around the globe. For large commercial quantities, CorTec has established a partnership with Heraeus Medevio which enables seamless transition to commercial scales. Owning this manufacturing base in-house rather than outsourcing it keeps development fast and capital-efficient — a decisive advantage in a field where most players depend on external suppliers.
Every therapy generates data
Because our implants read as well as write, every therapeutic session produces neural data. Over time, this data can help refine therapies and tailor them to the individual, and it lays the groundwork for AI-supported approaches as the evidence base grows.
